Jean’s Story

Jean’s Story

A bit of background

Jean is 92 years old, born in Melbourne and was married to Jack for 48 years who she met when she was 16.  She worked as a market gardener.  She has 5 daughters and many grandchildren as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Her motto in life is “Don’t worry about things, they may never happen.”

Her Parkglen story

Jean moved to Parkglen  8 years ago into an assisted care apartment.  She saw Parkglen get built and has family all around Keysborough.  It was her family which suggested she moved somewhere to get more help and they all agreed on Parkglen as it wasn’t like a ‘typical nursing home’ as she could do her own thing.  She said she has settled in nicely and enjoys sitting out in the courtyard attached to her apartment.  Jean gets involved in many activities in the community centre – often with Lorraine the activities leader, as well as separate clubs such as the Women’s club (WOW) and plays cards every week. She describes Parkglen as ‘the place to be!’

“Parkglen helps me live confidently by knowing everything is here.  If I need help, there are always people here.”
