Bowling his way to a century - Parkglen resident Ray Woods celebrates his 100th birthday milestone

Ray Woods, resident of Parkglen Retirement Community celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends this week.

Parkglen CEO, Kerrie Lavery, said, ‘It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate such a milestone with Ray and his family and friends. He’s got a great attitude and is fundamental to family life here at Parkglen.

Originally from Essendon and starting his long life working on his grandfather’s farm, Ray’s biggest achievement is raising his family. His motto in life is “Eat good food, exercise, play bowls and end the day with a VB stubby.”

Kerrie said, ‘Since coming to Parkglen, Ray has kept an active lifestyle by walking around 3kms a day and is passionate about playing bowls next door to the village at Keysborough Bowls Club every week which he never misses.

Ray celebrated his birthday at Parkglen with a bowls themed afternoon tea (along with VB stubbies!) fit for a centurion. He was given a card and cake from all the residents & staff and was surprised by Carlton United Brewery who presented him a slab of VB and a goody bag.
